Heart Disease In The News Why restenosis is more common in diabetics In the most recent issue of Circulation, researchers from the University of Lille, France, report that diabetics have a significantly higher risk of restenosis after angioplasty than non-diabetics - and that the restenosis they experience is more likely to produce death. The risk was so high that the investigators (and others) question whether diabetics should ever undergo angioplasty without placement of a stent. Stents significantly reduce the risk of restenosis, though in diabetics restenosis with stents is also higher than with the general population. |
